NTA accommodation FAQs

Common questions

What is NTA (National Travel Assistance)?

National Travel Assistance is a Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora scheme that helps eligible patients get some of their travel and accommodation costs back when they’re referred to a publicly funded specialist a long way from home. Your specialist or hospital travel coordinator registers you and confirms what you can claim.

Can I claim accommodation under NTA while I stay here?

Accommodation can usually be claimed when you live at least 100km from the facility treating you and your specialist has approved it. City Towers isn’t part of the scheme and can’t confirm your eligibility, but we give you the itemised, dated tax invoices you need to attach to your claim. Always check the details with your hospital travel coordinator first.

Do you provide receipts and invoices for my NTA claim?

Yes. We provide original, itemised invoices showing dates and amounts, ready to attach to your claim form. Just let us know at check-in that you’re claiming through National Travel Assistance.

How far are you from Auckland City Hospital?

City Towers is at 2 Maungawhau Road, Newmarket — about a 5-minute drive from Auckland City Hospital in Grafton, and close to Allevia Hospital Epsom and Southern Cross Gillies. Free on-site parking means you can drive straight in.

Can my support person stay with me?

Yes. Our self-contained studios comfortably suit a patient plus a support person, with a kitchenette to prepare your own meals and a quiet space to rest between appointments. NTA may also help with an approved support person’s costs — check with your coordinator.
