Newmarket is one of Auckland’s most vibrant and walkable neighbourhoods — a mix of great shopping, dining, parks and healthcare, right on the city’s doorstep. Here’s a taste of what’s around the corner from City Towers.

Shopping & dining

Newmarket is Auckland’s retail heart. Westfield Newmarket — reopened in 2019 after a $790 million rebuild — is a short stroll away on Broadway, with more than 200 stores across five levels, a Woolworths supermarket and gourmet food hall, David Jones, Event Cinemas and rooftop dining. The boutique Nuffield Street and Teed Street precincts add designer fashion, homeware and some of the city’s best cafés.

There’s something for every mood — a drink in the sun at Lumsden Green, casual Malaysian at Selera on Khyber Pass Road, or one of Auckland’s favourite burgers at Burger Burger on Teed Street. Catch a mainstream release at Event Cinemas or something more independent at the seven-screen Rialto arthouse cinema, and pick up a good bottle from Glengarry Wines to enjoy on your private balcony.

Hospitals & medical

City Towers is a quiet, convenient base for patients, families and medical visitors — most of Auckland’s major hospitals are only minutes away:

  • Auckland City Hospital & Starship Children’s Hospital (Grafton) — about a 5-minute drive
  • Allevia Hospital Epsom (formerly MercyAscot) — about 4 minutes
  • Southern Cross Gillies Hospital — about 5 minutes
  • University of Auckland — Grafton medical campus — about 5 minutes

Free on-site parking makes early appointments and daily visits easy. See our NTA accommodation and hospital & medical stay pages for more.

Recreation & culture

Stretch out at The Olympic Pools & Fitness Centre on Broadway — a 50m pool, gym, sauna and spa pool. For fresh air and culture, the Auckland Domain and the Auckland War Memorial Museum are an easy walk away, while the volcanic viewpoints of Maungawhau / Mt Eden and Cornwall Park / One Tree Hill are a short drive.

Getting around

Newmarket is one of the best-connected suburbs in Auckland. Newmarket Station — a few minutes’ walk — is a major rail interchange with frequent trains to Britomart and across the city, and Grafton Station is close by too. Regular buses run along Broadway and Khyber Pass Road, and State Highway 1 (the Southern Motorway) is just minutes away — see our Getting Here page for driving directions.

We’re proud of our neighbourhood, and we can’t wait to share it with you!
